Georgia’s budget struggle

Georgia’s elected officials continue to wrangle with how to work the state budget around the Governor’s promised across-the-board teacher pay increase and the General Assembly’s promised tax cut. As Georgia Public Policy Foundation President Kyle Wingfield pointed out in a recent commentary, legislators have no reason to set aside the tax rate cut they promised.

The Foundation marked its 29th anniversary on January 28, 2020 with an Anniversary Celebration and Freedom Award Dinner at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, with keynote speaker John A. Allison of the Cato Institute. About 300 supporters attended, and the Foundation presented the prestigious Freedom Award to Sunny Park. Park, a former Foundation board member, is an immigrant, businessman, philanthropist, mentor, and motivational speaker who focuses on promoting civic engagement of immigrants in the community and on mentoring at-risk youth.
