Goldwater breaks down barriers to work
The Goldwater Institute is working in Arizona and with its partners coast to coast on bills designed to empower students and their families, preserve property rights, and eliminate barriers to work. The Institute’s biggest undertaking is Breaking Down Barriers to Work. In 2019, Arizona passed landmark legislation to make it easier for licensed workers to continue working when they relocate into the state. Rather than ask trained professionals to disrupt their careers with duplicative testing and training, Arizona now recognizes out-of-state occupational licenses.
Pennsylvania quickly followed Arizona’s lead, passing a version of the same reform with bipartisan support, and this year, Ohio passed licensing reciprocity for military families. Goldwater looks forward to working with partners in other states on this critical licensing reform, which not only benefits workers and their families but is a boon for employers and consumers, who will benefit from the increased options and price competition that accompany an influx of skilled labor.
Goldwater is also working with partners nationwide to expand school choice options and protect the property rights of homeowners who want to offer their homes for rent to overnight guests on platforms like Uber and Lyft. Alongside coalition partners at the state and national level, the Institute continues to work in courts, capitols, and communities to empower all Americans to live freer, happier lives.
