The Deputy Director of Marketing supports the design and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated content and branding strategy for one of the nation’s foremost education policy organizations. The Deputy Director serves as a member of the communications team and is responsible for promoting the organization’s policy research, resources and thought leaders; project management; social media and email outreach; and brand guideline development and implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops content and strategies to externally promote the organization, its mission and student-centered policy agenda.
  • Serves as the primary marketing and communications point of contact for assigned education policy sets.
  • Strategizes and coordinates marketing activities to support those policy sets through social media, blogs and promotion of research and resources.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the communications team to drive development of creative collateral including reports, posts, imagery and video.
  • Implements marketing strategies to promote the Foundation’s National Summit on Education.
  • Collaborates with the digital strategist on paid digital media campaigns, including content development, campaign oversight, analytics and reports.
  • In support of marketing policies, develops an annual content calendar, working across teams to ensure coordination and strategic alignment of timing.
  • Assists with analysis, acquisition and implementation of third-party software or subscription services, as well as vendor support services, to provide improved efficiency and production.
  • Supports email marketing, including managing subscriber lists, drafting e-blasts, creating and managing email templates, posting online and tracking and analyzing campaign results.
  • Coordinates implementation of ExcelinEd’s brand by reviewing, optimizing and providing technical assistance to staff, vendors and contractors to ensure adherence to guidelines.
  • Creates and maintains guidelines and templates for internal and external collateral and communications tools, such as policy papers, presentations and one-pagers; tracks and manages collateral inventory.
  • Contributes to web communications, including website postings and edits on the content management system.
  • Undertakes special projects, as assigned.

  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally and across geographies at all levels of the organization.
  • Flexible work style with ability to learn quickly and work independently.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Proficiency with digital communications and technology tools and software, such as Smartsheet, Hootsuite/Sprout Social, Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp and WordPress.
  • Experience in monitoring and managing social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.
  • Experience in gathering, interpreting and reporting analytics from social and digital platforms.

Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, journalism, political science or other relevant area of study. Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.
