Development Communications Manager

Description

Tax Foundation seeks a Development Communications Manager to join our Development team. This position will be responsible for drafting, editing, and maintaining all outgoing team communications with individual, corporate, and foundation donors, including foundation proposals and reports, electronic fundraising communications, department brochures, and personalized outreach to donors on behalf of senior staff.

Job Duties

  • Work closely with the President and program staff to learn about current projects and policy initiatives, and develop descriptions for possible funding
  • Serve as the central hub for outgoing fundraising communications to ensure coherence of messaging and standardization per style guides and branding
  • Draft foundation grant proposals and reports
  • Draft letters of inquiry in search of new foundation donors
  • Draft Development department publications, including Annual Report
  • Draft electronic fundraising appeals including the Insider Update, our monthly email newsletter, and weekly email updates to corporate donors
  • Draft one-time personalized communications to donors on behalf of the President and senior staff
  • Coordinate donor communications for Tax Prom, our annual gala
  • Work with the Marketing team to ensure fundraising language is inserted, where appropriate, into outgoing communications to non-donor audiences
  • Meet with program staff regularly to discuss the status of ongoing work and proposals, prospective donor communications, and strategic direction of the program
  • Create and maintain Development department annual communications calendar
  • Report to President and senior Development staff all current fundraising communications efforts
  • Monitor and track all donor communications in the organization’s database

Requirements

  • Established writer with at least 5 years of experience; economics knowledge preferred
  • Excellent grasp of English language, including advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Word; knowledge of research databases (Lexus/Nexus), CRM systems (Salesforce/DonorPerfect), and Excel useful
  • Ability to vary and control nuances of tone, diction, rhythm, pace, and other stylistic features in writings
  • Ability to proof copy
  • Ability to render complex technical aspects of Tax Foundation’s programs into language that donors can readily understand
  • Can clearly and persuasively relate the aims of these programs to policy and philosophical concerns of donors
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Understand and support Tax Foundation’s mission and vision
