The Maine Heritage Policy Center is working on an ambitious project for the 2017-2018 legislative session in the State of Maine. MHPC will be educating legislators and following proposed legislation that will have a positive impact on and help limit the size and scope of government in the following areas: labor, healthcare, education, tax, energy, business regulations, broken government, and poverty. One of MHPC’s signature pieces of legislation that will be advanced is Right to Shop. This healthcare law would allow and incentivize patients to obtain the cost of certain procedures and reward them, as well as the insurance provider, by allowing the patient and the insurance company to each keep 50 percent of the savings below the average cost of the procedure. This legislation will enhance transparency and encourage the patient to be more involved in their healthcare choices.
