Webinar: How to Engage Other Viewpoints and Opinions in Today’s Environment
As our nation grapples with issues on race, protests and activism have reached a fever pitch. Slogans such as “Silence is violence” and “I’m listening” seem to be at odds with one another and conversations with those we might disagree with have felt more strained and challenging – or perhaps aren’t happening at all for fear of misstepping.
On June 24 the Philanthropy Roundtable hosted a one-hour webinar featuring Ian Rowe, resident fellow at American Enterprise Institute and the founder/CEO of Vertex Partnership Academies, a new network of character-based, International Baccalaureate high schools. Along with Irshad Manji, director of Courage, Curiosity and Character at Let Grow and the bestselling author of Don’t Label Me: How to Do Diversity Without Inflaming the Culture Wars. Together, Ian and Irshad led an insightful and highly practical conversation about how to engage other viewpoints and opinions in today’s environment.
You may have seen Ian’s recent WSJ op-ed on the power of personal agency. You should also check out Irshad’s video for TIME.com, where she explains why students should be taught not to take offense so easily.
