As we discussed on our last call, Labor Day is a good opportunity to shed light on the unfair and inappropriate activities that have become common behaviors for labor unions by reminding the public of what unions once were. Labor Day tends to elicit positive, nostalgic feelings toward unions, as people remember the unions of their fathers and grandfathers that were committed to improving working conditions and enjoy a Monday off work. We can’t ignore this sentiment in our communications around the holiday. So, per the great ideas of this group, one strategy will be to talk about unions of old, shed light on what government unions have become, and call on unions to return back to their core mission of serving workers. The best messengers for this will be current or former union members.

SPN is happy to help pitch national op-eds authored by workers. If you’d like us to pitch a piece for you, please send it to me (lovell@spn.org) by August 21.
