Jeremy, I don’t envy you right now. Nebraska’s Legislature is indefinitely postponed with the exception that the Speaker may call legislators back if emergency appropriations are needed. I have relied heavily on phone conversations with legislators because the Speaker has asked them to practice social distancing. Many offices at the Capitol are closed.
40 days of the 60 day session was completed so far. I’m guessing that if they do reconvene, it will be to finish approval of the budget. The main thing we were hoping would happen is some sort of tax relief, but we are now worried that if emergency appropriations are needed, the money may no longer be available for tax relief.
We had some occupational licensing bills that were making forward progress, but we will just have to wait and see what happens.
I spoke with someone today who is up for re-election. Many are nervous because the primary in May will be mail-in ballots only, and the Governor has recommended avoiding public events of more than 10 people and suspending door to door campaigning.
Like Matt mentioned, we as a team are relying on communications through social media and blogging.
