Wyoming Liberty Group has been advocating for education choice in Wyoming to allow parents across the state to pick the best school for their children. Recently Wyoming Liberty Group hosted Denisha Merriweather, the Department of Education’s Youth and School Choice political liaison, at the second of seven Parents Unite! events. Merriweather shared her personal story of how school choice allowed her to make a positive change in her life, and how education opportunities could increase in Wyoming. Parents Unite! is an ongoing initiative from the Wyoming Liberty Group that aims to increase awareness of the multiple benefits that accompany education choice.

Wyoming Liberty Group attorney Cassie Craven visited the local radio station, KFBC, to discuss common misconceptions about school choice. One caller declared that Wyoming already enjoys school choice due to the availability of private religious schools. But Craven was quick to correct that caller by questioning the financial viability of this sentiment. She stipulated that true education choice accounts for students’ ability to choose from technical education, online tutors, and a litany of alternatives. WLG’s goal is to provide as many avenues to learning as possible, regardless of financial status or geographic location.

Wyoming Liberty Group hosted Robyn Bagley, the board chair of Parents for Choice in Education, Utah’s leading advocacy organization for school choice in the state. During the past decade, Bagley successfully advocated for innovative policy, including Utah’s online education program. Throughout the hour-long informative discussion, she was able to answer community questions about how parents can take control of their children’s educations.

WLG was also happy to host PODER Academy’s Nick Avila on WLG’s podcast. Avila is an administrator at the college-oriented public charter school, PODER Academy. He joined Craven to discuss why school choice empowers children, and to explain how PODER has managed to boast higher proficiency scores than many public schools around the area.

Don’t miss out on Wyoming Liberty Group’s upcoming, collaborative event with Heartland Institute’s Lennie Jarratt. The event will be held November 13, 2018 in Cheyenne. For more details, and to stay up-to-date with all of WLG’s initiatives, like the Group on Facebookor visit the website.
