Hey guys! Thanks for hanging in for the tech issues yesterday on the Tuesday Talk! It was wonderful to see you all and I hope you are having a great week. I wanted to pass along a script that Max Huntley, Leadership Giving Officer at SPN was willing to share with you!

Hints and Tips from Max:

Two cents about thank you calls. It’s my belief that it’s the first thing you should do on a Monday morning. Pull a list of all the gifts made the prior week (gives time for ops to process donations, potentially the thank you has gone out, etc.) and send it around in a regionalized way to all of the development fundraisers and say “these are in your portfolio is there anyone else you’d like to thank?” And Mondays for SPN are heavy conference call days so you could never get anything started so thank you calls were literally the easiest thing and lowest stress for a Monday.

Voicemail below

“Hello Mr. Huntley. This is Max from State Policy Network I hope your day is going well. Just wanted to say thank you for your $100 donation last week. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to give me a call, again this is Max from State Policy Network at (804) 381-9704 again that number is (804) 381-9704. Thanks so much and have a great day.” Normally around 45 seconds.

On the phone

We do A LOT of the SPN 101 information in our project pineapple mailings so I want to keep it short and sweet and solely calling to say thank you.

“(Depending on if a man or a woman pick up) Is this Mr./Mrs. Huntley”

“Yes.”

“This is Max from State Policy Network, just wanted to thank you and your husband/wife for your $100 donation you made last week.” You know this, but always assume that both of them made it, and in my experience the wife will tell you if the husband takes care of that.

Normally I’ll get a “And what do you want…or you’re welcome.”

And I respond, “If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to give ME a call” Me seems more personal than us.
