Freedom through the Courts: The Latest Litigation Efforts across the Network

  • The Buckeye Institute filed its second amicus brief in Alaska v. U.S. Department of Education (previously Kansas v. Biden), calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to tell President Biden that, just like his first attempt, this latest attempt to shift student loan debt onto taxpayers is still illegal. 
  • The Liberty Justice Center filed a lawsuit against Governor Newsom and other California state officials to challenge Assembly Bill 1955, newly-enacted legislation that aims to prohibit parental notification policies across California. Filed the day after Newsom signed the bill into law, the lawsuit asks the court to bar California from implementing AB 1955 because it violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments as well as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
  • The Mackinac Center for Public Policy is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the Biden administration’s latest illegal and unconstitutional student loan program. 
  • The Texas Public Policy Foundation released a new study on family separation standards.
