PRI provides sound policy ideas in a time of uncertainty
As America grapples with the coronavirus, the Pacific Research Institute launched a new coronavirus page featuring regular updates with their work on the policy implications from the pandemic.
PRI Senior Fellow and former FDA official Dr. Henry Miller was the featured expert on FoxNews.com’s “Coronavirus: Ask An Expert Live Blog,” where he answered viewer-submitted questions about the virus, and the development of a potential vaccine.
Through numerous op-eds and media appearances, PRI President, CEO, and Thomas W. Smith Fellow in Healthcare Policy Sally C. Pipes made the case why single-payer would make it harder for the US to fight pandemics like the coronavirus.
PRI’s Center for Medical Economics and Innovation, led by Dr. Wayne Winegarden, argued that adopting drug price controls or a “Buy American” drug mandate would threaten the development and availability of life-saving medications.
PRI’s Center for Business and Economics produced a video urging policymakers to adopt policies encouraging entrepreneurship, such as repealing occupational licensing mandates or California’s AB 5 independent contractor law, to help those displaced earn a living from home.
PRI’s Center for Education, led by Lance Izumi, wrote about the growing importance of online learning and homeschooling with many schools closed, while PRI’s Center for California Reform highlighted the impact of the coronavirus on the state budget.
Finally, Evan Harris of PRI’s Young Leaders Circle “took over” the America’s Future Foundation Instagram page, showing how he was adjusting to working from home with three small children.
