Pelican Institute bringing solutions for Louisianans during COVID-19
Based in one of the hardest states hit by COVID-19, the Pelican Institute for Public Policy has spent the last month working to keep its audiences informed and provide resources to help those in need throughout this crisis. From providing a list of policy “Dos and Don’ts” for Louisiana lawmakers to giving parents and teachers tools to keep students engaged and learning while schools are closed, the Pelican Institute has established itself as a leader and vital information source during this time.
In late March, the Pelican Institute launched its new PeliCast series of Facebook live webinars. On the PeliCasts, Pelican Institute team members join guests from around the state and nation to discuss solutions to some of the main issues surrounding COVID-19. PeliCast episodes have covered topics like education tips for parents and teachers, the role of the Constitution during COVID-19, and the importance of lifting occupational licensing barriers during the pandemic, among others. Pelican Center for Technology and Innovation Director Eric Peterson hosted Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai for a special PeliCast on internet access and efforts to keep Americans connected during COVID-19.
The Pelican Institute is also planning a robust campaign to make the case for reopening Louisiana’s economy and getting the state’s citizens back to work. The economic devastation of COVID-19 makes pathways to jobs and opportunity for Louisianans more urgent than ever. The Pelican Institute team is developing solutions and urging lawmakers to join us in this mission.
