Director of Donor Relations
Location: Honolulu, Hawaii

Founded in 2001, the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii is a private, nonprofit organization working to advance individual liberty, the free market, and limited, accountable government.

The Director of Donor Relations is responsible for building relationships with existing donors and prospective donors in order to generate major gifts for the Grassroot Institute. This is a highly visible role representing the organization and conveying its public policy priorities and activities. The Director of Donor Relations reports to the Vice President and will also work closely with the President and Director of Finance. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Job Duties

  • Oversee a portfolio of hundreds of donors statewide, including meetings, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Manage relationships with existing and prospective donors in all aspects of the giving cycle including: identifying, qualifying, and initiating contact; developing appropriate cultivation strategies; moving potential donors toward solicitation and closure; making solicitations; and maintaining stewardship contacts.
  • Work with the Vice President and other members of the development team to create cultivation and solicitation strategies and to craft a compelling case for support, including clear articulation of the Grassroot Institute’s historical and future impact.
  • Identify donors and prospects who merit visits with the Vice President and President.
  • Produce fundraising materials as needed, including letters, newsletters and emails.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Interest in/knowledge of Hawaii public policy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience in using donor databases
