Since March 2020, Heart + Mind Strategies’ Coronavirus Tracking Poll has followed Americans’ reactions to the government’s pandemic response. The most recent wave of polling, conducted on September 2-3, indicates many Americans think the coronavirus will affect them personally for more than seven months. Additionally, a majority of Americans believe the coronavirus will have a prolonged impact on the economy.
Republicans are more optimistic for themselves but pessimistic about the impact of the pandemic on the overall economy. They are more confident that they will feel the personal impact for six months or less (53%). However, they are more likely to think the impact to the overall economy will last longer than a year (63%). Polling also finds Americans think the economy, healthcare, and jobs/unemployment are the most important issues to address.
State Policy Network is working with Heart + Mind Strategies to track the American public’s opinions through this time of upheaval and change.
