Growing Iowa’s fields of opportunity
Creating opportunity and economic freedom for all Iowans is at the heart of TEF Iowa’s mission. During the legislative session, TEF is focusing on occupational licensing reform and creating a pro-growth tax code for Iowa, both of which will create and encourage opportunity and economic growth.
Recently TEF Iowa worked with The Buckeye Institute’s Economic Research Center to advance a pro-growth tax policy. “A Better Path Forward for Iowa Tax Reform” examines four possible tax policy scenarios to reduce Iowa’s high-income tax rates. This report demonstrates how Iowa could create a more competitive economic climate and also have greater economic growth by lowering income tax rates. TEF Iowa is helping shape the tax policy debate. Our team has been promoting the study on radio, televised public affairs programs, and in newspaper op-eds.
In January, TEF Iowa published three articles addressing the need for economic development reform. John Mozena, President of the Center for Economic Accountability, Dean Stansel, Senior Research Fellow at the O’Neil Center for Global Markets and Freedom, and Patrick Tuohey, Director of Policy at the Better Cities Project, all contributed essays on the need for a free-market approach to economic development.
With 2020 being a presidential election year, TEF Iowa is working to remind Iowans about the importance of the Electoral College. Our team has written op-eds and provided numerous programs across the state about the need to protect and defend the Electoral College, which has come under increasing attack.
