ALEC releases 30 policy prescriptions for COVID-19
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) immediately provided public health communications to its members and partners. ALEC continues to circulate the most up-to-date and reliable information and resources. ALEC also communicated solutions developed at ALEC that address issues present because of COVID-19. ALEC released 30 policy prescriptions that empower states, localities, job creators, civic institutions, and individuals to handle this crisis, prepare for the next one, and get the economy moving again.
Social distancing means more people are at home. So, to reach people where they are, ALEC amped up its digital content, like the ALEC podcast Across the States. Episodes on solutions to respond to COVID-19 feature guests such as Newt Gingrich on getting American back to work, K12 Inc. on virtual learning during the pandemic, and local decision makers with ACCE, an ALEC sister organization. ALEC also created a public playlist, State Audio Resources: COVID-19, which is continually being updated with conference calls and other audio information from ALEC experts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ALEC has hosted virtual meetings to continue its convening role, bringing the public and private sector together to develop state-based solutions. For example, ALEC hosted a meeting of state legislators and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), which is freely available to listen and share.
In these unprecedented times, ALEC continues to be a convening powerhouse to develop the state-based solutions supporting the principles of free enterprise and individual liberty.
