State Policy Network
All across the states in early 2020

Both the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and the American City County Exchange (ACCE)—a division of ALEC for elected local officials—were active across the states to promote free enterprise and individual liberty at the beginning of the state legislative sessions.

In January, ALEC attended the Consumer Technology Association at CES (the world’s gathering place where where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace), a member event in South Dakota, a New Legislator Academy in Louisiana, and a task force issue briefing on labor policy in Florida. In February, the team traveled to Mississippi for a New Legislator Academy, to Wyoming for a Tax Academy, and to Virginia for a member event. In March, there will be an ALEC member event in Oklahoma. Additionally, ACCE has meetings and events in Texas and Colorado quickly approaching.

Along with the hundreds of trips the ALEC team will be making to each state, the big issues of 2020 will be covered. For instance, donor privacy legislation—both good and bad—is appearing across the states. The courts have repeatedly upheld the Constitution and donor privacy rights, but many states like New Jersey, Oregon, and New York have enacted bills that put donor privacy in jeopardy. However, Iowa, Oklahoma, and West Virginia are leading the way with legislation that plays a positive role in protecting donor privacy.
