Helping Our Neighbors in Texas: Annual Meeting Attendees Support Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts
As nearly 1,400 individuals packed their bags to attend the 25th State Policy Network Annual Meeting, a storm unlike any other was bearing down on the Texas coast. With so many in need, our network felt compelled to help.
Over the course of the week, Annual Meeting attendees from across the country raised $12,951 for the San Antonio Food Bank and sent three waves of volunteers who helped prepare 100,000 pounds of food.
“On behalf of the San Antonio Food Bank and the thousands of people who have been impacted by this disaster, I want to say thank you for raising critical funds for their relief. The community has stepped up in the most miraculous ways and you and the SPN groups are a testament to that. Thank you, thank you,” said Kristina Hernandez, director of community investments at the San Antonio Food Bank.
The San Antonio Food Bank’s operation was inspirational and impressive. During the recovery effort, the Food Bank:
The volunteers were amazed at the Food Bank’s capacity and humbled by the experience.
“It was a blessing to be part of the SPN community’s response to the devastation nearby. Thank you for the opportunity. Thank you for taking the next step. Thank you for following through and providing an example of what is possible when people are not prohibited to help. We were a small part of the response, but it was important that we were part of it,” said Joe Colletti of the John Locke Foundation.
Thank you to all those who contributed to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey. It was an honor to serve the Texas communities devastated by Harvey and work alongside the local leaders and organizations spearheading the recovery effort. Our network’s actions demonstrated what this movement is all about: working together to help all Americans thrive.
