Jesse Helms Center builds on successful 2019

The Jesse Helms Center has spent the first quarter of 2020 building on an incredibly strong year in 2019. The Center’s first event of the year was the ninth annual Jesse Helms Lecture on February 6, 2020 at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC. Ambassador Kay Bailey Hutchison, the United States’ permanent representative to NATO, spoke on the importance of a strong NATO. The Center also continued its Admiral James W. Nance Lecture Series with Dr. Michael Rubin of the American Enterprise Institute in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on March 4, 2020. Dr. Rubin gave a topical lecture on American relations with Iran and the Middle East.

This summer the Center will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge (FELC) a five-day educational summer camp for high school students to learn the values of the free enterprise system. Since it was established in 1995, over 10,500 students have graduated from the program. FELC will be held June 8-12, 2020 at Houston Baptist University in Houston, Texas; June 21-25, 2020 at Wingate University in Wingate, North Carolina; July 12-16, 2020 at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida; July 20-24, 2020 at Midlands Technical College in Columbia, South Carolina; and July 26-30, 2020 at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
