As communications professionals in the liberty movement, our job is to change the way people think about issues related to liberty and freedom. The goal of our work is to spur culture changes that will propel policy changes, and to push policy changes that will better our culture. We will not do that by putting out press releases about white papers or posting something clever to Facebook and counting how many of our friends “like” it. That’s not great work, and it certainly won’t be satisfying. More importantly, if that is how we approach the fight for freedom then we will lose. We have to think expansively about how we build support for the liberty position one compelling argument, one powerful story, and one mind at a time.
So in thinking about our roles as a way to change culture, what this guide seeks to do is expose communications professionals in the freedom movement to the array of tools available. It’s not a step-by-step guide, and not every strategy here will work for every organization. This book certainly doesn’t list every strategy available. But what we hope to do in making this resource available is to open your eyes to a new way of thinking about your work, and to help you learn how to think of your role rather than just what to do.
