Philanthropy is the engine keeping our nonprofit missions moving forward. But fundraising is more than just asking for money. Success requires a compelling vision that excites donors not just to give – but to partner with you to change the world.
Because of that, exceptional fundraisers are often the most sought-after positions in the nonprofit world. The path to success and leadership requires both technical and relational fundraising skills.
State Policy Network offers fundraising workshops and bootcamps to ensure organizational leaders and fundraisers have the skills they need to be successful. In 2024, SPN is offering two separate bootcamps.
- Major Gifts Bootcamp (June 11-12 in Arlington, VA) is for major gift officers and seasoned development professionals who are looking to tune up their donor relation strategies and convene with peers across the network.
- Development Bootcamp (July 15-19 in Arlington, VA) is for new development staff or organizational leaders taking on additional development responsibilities. You will leave with the confidence to know how to find the right donors, how to meaningfully connect them with your mission, and how to engage them in a long-term partnership with your organization.
Participants will also be eligible to receive ongoing coaching and join professional development opportunities to further your skills beyond bootcamp.
Through the generosity of donors, SPN covers the on-site expenses for hotels, meals and programming. Participants are responsible for their travel to and from bootcamp.

Note: Each bootcamp has limited spots available. Individuals can only apply to one Development Bootcamp each year, so choose the bootcamp below that best fits your needs. Priority will be given to staff from affiliate and partner member organizations.
SPN Development Bootcamp: Fundamentals of Fundraising
July 15-19, 2024
Back by popular demand! A four-day, intensive workshop, SPN Development Bootcamp will introduce you to the fundamentals of philanthropy, challenge you to lead with curiosity and purpose in your donor relationships, and equip you with the tools and systems you need for a sustainable development shop for years to come.
This Bootcamp may be for you if you are new to fundraising or stepping into new fundraising responsibilities.
Applicants should meet one of the eligibility requirements below:
- Have at least 1-2 years of development experience and are looking to level-up your knowledge and skills
- Are an experienced leader who has taken on new development responsibilities at your organization
- Recently stepped into an executive director or senior leader position and want to get your fundraising department in shape
- Have ambitions to run or start a nonprofit
SPN Major Gifts Bootcamp: Accelerate Your Success with Major Gifts
June 11-12, 2024
SPN Major Gifts Bootcamp is a two-day workshop designed to help take you take your leadership and donor relation strategies to the next level. This bootcamp is ideal for mid-career or seasoned development professionals who are looking to accelerate their growth. You’ll have opportunities to workshop how you communicate your mission and impact to donors, to build and refine your moves management strategies, and to co-collaborate with your peers across the country.
Eligibility:
- Have at least 3+ years of development experience
- Your primary responsibilities include cultivating, stewarding and soliciting major donors
- You have ambitious personal and professional goals and want to accelerate your success with major gifts
